Workshops for 2025
VLADISLAV YELISEYEV – Mastering Watercolor Technique
FEBRUARY 21st to 23rd, 2025 – $625
Students will learn how to approach complicated scenery and to convey its character without resorting to endless details’ depiction, and master watercolor application techniques in a loose bold brush style of painting.
Every painting is like poetry, the less words wasted, the more powerful message it conveys. This workshop will concentrate on the idea of reinterpreting the scenery into loose impressionist perception style. Vladislav will show you the path how to make an impact on the viewer with every brushstroke applied. You will discover the importance of one detail above the other, and therefore how to be selective in your painting process.
You will learn how to:
- Define existing scapes into three focal planes to tackle any subject matter
- Use different painting techniques for each focal plane: wet on wet, dry brush, tone gradations, mixing colors on rough surface, soft edges, scratch outs etc.
- Finish your painting with intricate details and energize your painting with powerful brushwork
- Paint loose and where and why to use a particular application technique in your painting and how to apply the power of unifying wash.
- Use the sword liner for painting trees, brunches, wires, polls and other details requiring calligraphy. Using white gouache for highlight

ANITA ELDER – 2025 Getaway Plein-Air Retreat
JUN 4 to 6, 2025 – $385
Wednesday to Friday: 9:00 am to 4:30 pm
Spring is the perfect time to be painting outdoors in the beautiful Blue Ridge mountains with its spectacular views. Our location for this retreat will be in the Suches Valley, two hours north of Atlanta on Blood Mountain. Our retreat will have us staying two nights (third night if you are from out of town) at “Getaway Chattahoochee” tiny cabins (see link below). Each student is responsible for renting their own cabin prior to signing up for the class. Anita has spent time at the cabins and says “the cabins are beautiful, modern, cozy, and come with all amenities.” The cabins have a queen size bed, and some have a queen bunk in addition, if you wanted to share with a friend. The cabins also have small kitchenettes so guests will need to provide themselves food for the stay. Getaway does offer a “Sustenance Box,” details on the website, for an additional cost paid with reservation.
Each day will be a different location starting off with teacher demo and students painting after the demo. Anita will be on hand to help each student. This retreat is for beginners through advance. In the evenings all will be invited to gather at one location to enjoy a fire pit and company. Please contact Anita Elder at info@artloft.net for more information.
